ISTANBUL - Turkey's chief European Union negotiator Ali Babacan sounded confident Friday over the country's democracy and economy, saying that political debates which had been going on for the last two couple of months would soon settle down.
"No need to worry, law and democracy will always prevail as Turkey has no other options to follow," Babacan told a gala dinner of a Turkish-German economic conference held in Istanbul, Turkey's main commercial hub.
"One might predict that developments over the last few months would have shaken Turkey's economic indicators but that is not the actual case because everyone knows that common sense will prevail and democracy will win in the end," Babacan said.
