ANKARA - Foreign Trade Undersecretary Tuncer Kayalar said on Monday that studies were underway to make cooperation with Cameroon to overcome the house shortage of that country.
Kayalar paid an official visit to Cameroon between February 29-March 5 2004 to open the First Turkish Export Products Fair held in Yaounde, Cameroon within the scope of the strategy to improve economic relations with Africa and to hold meetings.
Issuing a written statement about his visit, Kayalar said that totally 37 companies and 60 businessmen attended the fair representing automotive, machinery, chemistry, textile-ready-to-wear, electric-electronics, plastic, furniture, construction sectors.
Kayalar stated that he met with President Paul Biya of Cameroon, high ranking officials and business circles during his visit, adding that they reached a compromise to upgrade the bilateral relations.
Kayalar stated that Turkey would help Cameroon in meeting its house shortage, adding that they discussed the issue of Turkish construction companies' finishing incomplete construction of dwellings in Yaounde and their undertaking the project of building 700 dwellings in Cameroon.
Kayalar added that many Turkish companies signed agreements with companies in Cameroon, and that a company producing fiberoptic cables decided to invest in Cameroon.
