ANKARA - State Minister Ali Babacan has said that representatives of ten separate sectors from 11 countries would attend the meeting of Turkish Investment Consultative Council to be held in Istanbul on March 15, 2004.
Holding a press conference on Monday, Babacan said, ''Turkey has a great potential due to its population, dynamic economy, geography and values. However, Turkey could not draw sufficient foreign capital for years. We should research reasons laying beneath it carefully. Throughout its history, foreign capital has always been under 1 billion U.S. dollars. When we take into consideration Turkey's gross national product, figures of exports and imports, we will see that foreign capital in Turkey is extremely low.''
Recalling that Turkish Investment Consultative Council was formed by high-level directors of 10-20 multinational companies, Babacan told reporters, ''the most important target of the meeting of Turkish Investment Consultative Council is to promote Turkey. Also, those making investments all around the world will explain their views about Turkish economy during the meeting. Representatives of ten separate sectors from 11 countries would attend the meeting. Besides directors of 20 multinational companies, chairmen of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD), the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) and the Foreign Investment Association (YASED) will also be in attendance at the meeting.''
Babacan told reporters that World Bank President James Wolfensohn and International Monetary Fund (IMF) European I Department Director Michael Deppler would be among participants of the meeting to be held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
