EMPEROR SENT AWAY
Galatasaray Club Chairman Canaydin asked Galatasaray's coach Fatih Terim, who laid down four proposals yesterday including ''resignation'', to leave the post. Canaydin and Terim held a joint press conference after their one-hour meeting. Canaydin said, ''our coach has resigned from his position as of today. But, he will continue to train our team since Galatasaray congress.''

29-YEAR-OLD TURKISH ENGINEER VICTIM OF TALEBAN
Twenty-nine-year-old Turkish engineer Tolga Erdem, who was working in construction of Kabul-Kandahar highway in Afghanistan, died in an ambush laid by Taleban. An Afghan guard also lost his life in the attack. Salih Aksoy, an administrator of the Kolnat construction company, and his translator were abducted.

BRIBE ENCOURAGED
A new arrangement for Turkish Penal Code (TCK): If a person who takes the bribe gives the bribe to officials when he is captured and if a person who gives the bribe says ''I repented'', they won't be punished. Parliamentary Justice Sub-Commission amended articles on ''embezzlement'' and ''bribery.'' A public official who takes bribe or who agrees on a bribe by another person will serve between four years and 12 years in prison. A person who gives the bribe will also be punished. If official who takes the bribe returns the bribe to the state before investigation starts, he will not be punished. If the person who gives the bribe repents and informs officials about the bribe, he will not be punished either. In this case, the bribe he gives to the official will be given back to him.

ADIOS GURTUNA!
Istanbul Mayor Ali Mufit Gurtuna will go to Mexico three days after the local elections on March 20. He will be accompanied by 20 bureaucrats of the municipality. Municipality officials say, ''Gurtuna is the mayor until the newly-elected mayor officials takes over the position. There won't be any problems in representation.''

TURKISH ENGINEER KILLED IN KABUL
A Turkish engineer was killed in an armed attack staged on the highway between Kabul-Kandahar cities of Afghanistan while a Turkish company official and an Afghan translator were abducted, Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Bulent Tulun announced on Friday.
Tulun said that unidentified assailants had attacked on a working team of Turkish construction company ''Kolnat'' that undertook reconstruction of the highway between Kabul and Kandahar, killing 29-year-old Turkish engineer Tolga Erdem and abducting 50-year-old company official Salih Aksoy and an Afghan translator in the afternoon.
''TAKE AND GIVE'' NEGOTIATION IS THE NEW PROCESS IN CYPRUS
President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said they would enter give and take process in Cyprus talks with the Greek Cypriots starting on Thursday.
Denktas said Turkey and they were doing their best to meet the May 1 deadline, adding, ''however, they should see the obstacles and difficulties in front of us.''

TAKE AND GIVE BARGAINING IN ANKARA
United Nations (U.N.) sat at negotiation table with Turkey to start ''take and give'' process in talks started in Cyprus where a concrete result could not be reached.
U.N. Secretary General's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, during his seven hour talks in Ankara on Friday, brought onto agenda the issues which would constitute the basis of ''take and give'' process.
Do Soto said the sides would not present him a document, yet noted that, however possibility of reaching a solution in Cyprus talks lowered.
Meanwhile, Ankara said three fundamental changes of the Turkish side regarding the plan should absolutely take place in final text.

TEN POLICEMEN DON'T PARTICIPATE IN TORTURE CASE
''Extension'' scenarios repeated in Altunbas case. None of the suspects, including those arrested in absentia attended the court session. The case was adjourned to March 12. Two policemen, who are arrested in absentia, and eight other suspects who can be seen anywhere but who can't be found anywhere, did not attend the hearing in Ankara Second Heavy Criminal Court. The court rejected request of lawyers of suspects to put a broadcasting ban on the case while the prosecutor firstly asked for punishment of four suspects on charges of killing a person by torture and then demanded that punishments should not be more than eight years for each suspect taking into consideration ''reduction of punishments in secret killings.'' Lawyers of suspects asked for extra time and the court delegation adjourned the hearing till March 12.

ANKARA HARSHLY REACTS, DENKTAS MAKES HIS MOOD MILDER
Ankara harshly reacted to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''we supported you in elections. Parties having only one percent of votes are holding easy shows and you believe.'' Denktas, who said that he spoke in a meeting held by Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) since he could not hurt former president Suleyman Demirel, said, ''I have heard very encouraging news from the prime minister and Gul.''

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas, who joined the tenth of Cyprus talks, said, ''we are doing our best to keep to the March 1 deadline. The Greek Cypriots told us to start give and take process as of Thursday and we accepted this proposal.''

WE HAVE AGAIN OVERCOME A VERY BIG DISASTER
Ukrainian-flagged ship named ''Delfin'' which was carrying 19 tons of gunpowder ran aground on Canakkale Strait only three meters were left to the shore. Thus, a big disaster was prevented. It was revealed that captain of the ship reported that the ship was unloaded when passing through Istanbul Strait and then lied that the ship was carrying dry load.

DENKTAS SAYS THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE OF OPINION BETWEEN TRNC AND TURKEY
President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), who met with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, said there was no difference of opinion between TRNC and Turkey as it was alleged in press.
Speaking about his one-day visit to Ankara, Denktas said, ''I saw their sensitivity on our sine qua non conditions. I felt courage.''

FOREIGN MINISTRY CLOSELY FOLLOWS APPOINTMENTS IN FENER GREEK-ORTHODOX PATRIARACHATE
Ankara closely covers the developments about the appointment of foreigners, who are not Turkish citizens, to Sen Sinod Assembly of the Fener Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate.
Diplomatic sources said news reports on the issue were examined and evaluated carefully.
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul also said studies were underway on the issue.
News reports said metropolitans, who are not Turkish citizens, were appointed to 12-member Sen Sinod Assembly for the first time since 1923.
