KABUL - A Turkish engineer was killed in an armed attack staged on the highway between Kabul-Kandahar cities of Afghanistan while a Turkish company official and an Afghan translator were abducted, Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Bulent Tulun announced on Friday.
Tulun said that unidentified assailants had attacked on a working team of Turkish construction company ``Kol-Naft`` that undertook reconstruction of the highway between Kabul and Kandahar, killing 29-year-old Turkish engineer Tolga Erdem and abducting 50-year-old company official Salih Aksoy and an Afghan translator in the afternoon.
Tulun said that body of the Turkish engineer would be brought to Kabul with helicopter.
ASSAILANTS ALSO KILL TWO AFGHAN SECURITY GUARDS
Officials from the Turkish company ``Kol-Naft`` said that armed assailants fired missiles on cars carrying Tolga Erdem and company official Salih Aksoy who had come from Ankara to Afghanistan for temporary work and in the attack, two Afghan security guards were killed.
Unidentified assailants later stopped the car carrying Tolga Erdem and Salih Aksoy and asked them to get out of the car. Assailants who killed Turkish engineer Erdem kidnapped Aksoy and an Afghan translator.
Meanwhile, sources said that Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Bulent Tulun was holding meetings with Afghan officials on sending the dead body of the engineer to Turkey.
