LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that Turkey did what was necessary with good will to reach a positive result in Cyprus talks.
Stating that he had satisfactory talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, Denktas said, ''I am pleased to see that they sensitively focus on our sine qua non.''
Denktas made a statement about his meetings in Ankara. He said there was great excitement in Turkey on Cyprus issue which was a national cause for Turkey. He said they were enlivened and their morale was boosted to see that Turkey expended support to them.
Denktas said Foreign Minister Gul gave him encouraging good news to him about his talks about Cyprus in foreign countries.
Pointing out that he had a satisfactory meeting Erdogan, Denktas said, ''I am pleased to see his sensitivities on our sine qua non.''
Denktas said Turkey did what was necessary with good will to reach a positive result in Cyprus talks, stressing that, ''it is our duty to make what was necessary in the coming three weeks to reach a positive agreement.''
Denktas said both of the two sides should have the same intentions and envisage the same target to make an agreement, yet noted that Greek Cypriot side did not give up the trick to possess Cyprus under the name of legal Cyprus government. Denktas said, ''neither the Turkish government, nor we will allow this.''
Pointing out that excitement and vitality should be maintained on Cyprus issue, Denktas said, ''people should not withdraw to wait and see what will happen. Everybody should cover the incidents everyday knowing what would happen and what he wanted to happen and by supporting the negotiators.''
''Our fate is under negotiation'' Denktas said, stressing that people would reply to this when the time comes, and wanted people to be aware of possible developments in case they give up the state.
