Ukrainian Ship Runs Aground

CANAKKALE - The Ukrainian flagged-ship ''Delpin-1'' whose engine broke down and which was loaded with explosive substance, ran aground in Canakkale Strait on Thursday.
The engine of the cargo ship which was en route from Ukraine to Lebanon, stopped in the strait, was drifted and ran aground in Eceabat Camburnu region. The captain of the ship called for help saying that the ship was carrying hazardous cargo. Efforts are underway to save the ship.

Canakkale Governor Suleyman Kamci told A.A correspondent that the ship didn't constitute any risk for other ships passing the strait.
Kamci said that ''the captain of the ship had earlier told strait traffic officials that the ship was empty. We've taken necessary measures, and sent tugboats to save the ship. The region (Camburnu region) where the ship ran aground is outside the transit passages of other ships, so there is no danger for the moment.''
Canakkale Harbor Office will start an investigation into the incident by interrogating the captain after the ship is saved.
