ANKARA - Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc met with Parliament Speaker of Luxembourg Jean Spautz on Wednesday.
After the tete-a-tete meeting between the two parliament speakers, a meeting between the two parliamentary delegations was held.
Speaking in the beginning of the meeting, Arinc said that Luxembourg Parliament Speaker came to Turkey with a very important delegation. Noting that there were leaders and group chairmen of the parties represented in the Luxembourg parliament in the delegation, Arinc said that there were officials both from AK Party and CHP in the Turkish delegation.
Arinc said he believed that the good relations between the two countries would further strengthen with this visit and bilateral relations would continue after Turkey's accession to EU.
Parliament Speaker of Luxembourg Spautz said in his part that his visit took place in a period in which important decisions were taken referring to the membership of Cyprus to EU by May 1. He expressed his hope that all problems to be solved until that date and Cyprus issue to be resolved in the way foreseen by Annan.
Spautz said that they knew that Turkey and Turkish people wanted to become a member of EU very much, adding that they wanted to see the steps taken by Turkey for its EU bid by coming to Turkey.
Spautz stated that they believed that important steps were taken in human rights field by the parliament. Noting that Turkey was a friendly country, Spautz said that Luxembourg would accompany Turkey on its EU bid.
Spautz and the accompanying delegation later visited Parliamentary Adjustment Commission Chairman Yasar Yakis.
Arinc will host a lunch for Parliament Speaker of Luxembourg in the afternoon.
