MANISA - "We have vowed to protect undividable unity and independence of this country," Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said on Monday.
Holding a news conference after attending the funeral of lieutenant colonel Melih Gulova, who was killed when a remote-control explosive planted by the terrorist organization PKK on a road in Guclukonak town in the southeastern city of Sirnak went off on Saturday, Arinc expressed his profound sorrow over killing of Gulova and two other soldiers in the attack.
Referring to criticisms against the government and himself during the funeral, Arinc said, "we rely on our people`s common-sense. There are some circles and politicians who try to benefit from funerals of martyrs for their own purposes. It is totally inappropriate and obnoxious to chant slogans during funeral of a martyr. They should be ashamed of themselves. We do not deserve it."
"Terrorism is a crime against humanity. Turkey is one of the countries which suffered most from terrorism. We have been fighting against terrorism for years, and we will maintain this fight till the terrorist organization is totally eradicated. We have vowed to protect undividable unity and independence of this country," Arinc stressed.
