Turkish Government Continues To Have Reservations On Several Topics, Kilic

GENEVA - "The Turkish government continues to have reservations on several topics, including fair wages, the right to organize, total bargaining and the right to go on strikes as described in the European Social Conditions. Our national laws and regulations are not in accordance with the 87th, 98th and 151st agreements of the International Labor Organization (ILO), said Salih Kilic, Chairman of the Confederation of Turkish Labor Unions (Turk-Is), on Monday.
In a keynote speech delivered at the ILO`s 96th Working Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, Salih Kilic indicated that the unions movement in Turkey faces serious problems from the perspective of getting organized.
"Thanks to ILO programs and cooperation, we have begun fighting against child labor. However, we still need to make arrangements in Turkey to end illegal child labor," noted Kilic.
"Turkish workers see war and terror as the biggest enemies of human rights, democracy, labor rights and freedoms. Thus, we follow with concern the developments in Iraq, Palestine and elsewhere. We want the occupation of Iraq to end and Iraq`s territorial integrity to be protected," stressed Kilic.
Kilic remarked that "public employees in Turkey still face problems in labor agreements. We hope that the problems faced in the public sector are eradicated."
