ISTANBUL - "In 2002, the privatization volume in Turkey was 536 million USD. In 2005, the privatization volume reached 12.5 billion USD. And, in 2006 the privatization volume in Turkey was 8.9 billion USD," said Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks Ali Babacan on Monday.
Babacan made a keynote speech at the breakfast organized for the participants of the Investment Advisory Council`s Fourth Meeting in Istanbul.
"While the flow of foreign capital into Turkey was worth 1.8 billion USD in 2003, the total flow of foreign capital into Turkey was worth 20 billion USD in 2006," told Babacan.
According to Babacan, the Gross Domestic National Product in Turkey grew 7.45 percent between 2002-2006.
Babacan stressed that income per capita in Turkey was 5008 USD in 2005. "Income per capita rose to 5,477 USD in 2006," noted Babacan.
Minister Babacan remarked that the debt criteria of the EU have been met. "We are about to reach our targets in interest rates and inflation," underlined Babacan.
Babacan added that Turkey`s goal is to grow by seven percent in the next seven years.
