ONE PILOT SURVIVES
KONYA - One of the four pilots on board of two F-4 military training planes which crashed after colliding in mid-air in Konya on Tuesday survived.
Villagers told the A.A correspondent that training Pilot Officer Onur Uyanik had ejected before the collision.
Villagers who found the pilot officer alive in Hamzalar region said that he was shocked and could not remember anything but he was in good condition.
Meanwhile, sources said that military helicopters reached the area and search-and-rescue efforts were under way.
Officials earlier said two F-4 training planes collided in mid-air in central province of Konya and the planes crashed into a hill, starting a fire in forested area.
BODY OF ONE PILOT FOUND
Cafer Bal, the head of the Forestry Department in Hadim region in Konya, said late on Tuesday that they had found a flight lieutenant`s body away from plane wreckage.
Speaking to reporters, Bal said that wreckage spread to a large area. ``Away from the wreckage, we found a flight lieutenant`s body. He was on his jet seat. At first, we thought he survived but when we reached him we saw that he was already dead. Later Gendarmerie teams arrived,`` he said.
Bal said that search-and-rescue efforts were under way to locate the two missing pilots.
