Gul: We Expect The Greek Cypriot Side To Be More Frank And Determined

ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has said that Turkey expected the Greek Cypriot administration to be more frank and determined.
Replying to questions of journalists after his meeting with Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Tuesday, Gul said, ''we did not discuss proposals of the Greek Cypriot side at the meeting. We expect the Greek Cypriot side to be more frank and determined about finding a solution to the Cyprus issue. Turkey has been acting by targeting to find a solution to the Cyprus issue before May 1, 2004. We expect the Greek Cypriot side to display the same attitude.''
''It is useless to accuse anyone. The most important thing is to find a solution before May 1. The best solution will be an agreement to be reached between the two sides in the island. If they fail to reach an agreement, Turkey and Greece will participate in the negotiation process. Everyone should be realistic. Also, the solution should take facts of the island into consideration,'' he said.
Reminding that President Rauf Denktas of TRNC would come to Turkey on Thursday, Gul added that they would also hold consultations with President Denktas.
