ANKARA - European Parliament (EP) President Pat Cox, who was in Ankara as the official guest of Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc, met on Tuesday with Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.
Replying to the questions of reporters about the visit of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat after the meeting, Gul said that they would evaluate recent developments on Cyprus talks with Talat and added that his meetings with Talat such frequently were normal.
Gul said that meetings between two sides in Cyprus were continuing and the issues on which sides could not reach a consensus would be taken up during the quartet meeting between TRNC, Greek Cypriot administration, Turkey and Greece. He recalled that after this stage, the issue would be conveyed to the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, adding, ''basic decision will be taken by peoples in the island.''
Upon a question on his wife's withdrawal of the case which she filed to European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) because she was not registered to the university due to her headscarf, Gul said that he did not make any suggestion to his wife, adding that his wife had taken her decision earlier.
