LOS ANGELES - Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton was sent back to prison Friday just a day after her early release from a 45-day sentence had triggered outrage, court officials said.
Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer ordered that the 26-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune had to serve out her sentence imposed for driving on a suspended license in the Los Angeles women's prison and not under house arrest.
Earlier Friday, Los Angeles sheriff's deputies had hauled a handcuffed Hilton back to court following outrage that she had been released for unspecified "medical reasons" after little more than 72 hours behind bars.
CNN reported that she was sobbing, and called out for her mother, as she was sent back to jail.
She had been released from jail early Thursday wearing an ankle bracelet and placed under house arrest in her luxury home near Sunset Boulevard.
