LEFKOSA - Studies on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)'s adjustment to the European Union (EU) started officially on Monday, as Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides continued negotiations aiming at finding a solution to Cyprus issue in Cyprus by May 1.
Ambassador Peker Turgud, TRNC Prime Ministry's EU Department Coordinator Erhan Ercin, Yenal Surec and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) deputy Ozdil Nami represented TRNC at a meeting which started at 10.00 a.m. at buffer zone under the supervision of the United Nations (U.N.).
U.N. and EU representatives and Greek Cypriot officials who carry out studies on adjustment to the EU also attended the meeting in which intensive studies were launched on TRNC's adjustment to EU regulation.
EU Coordination Department of Prime Ministry comprised of experts and representatives of ministries will also make contribution to the delegation representing TRNC during the EU adjustment talks.
Meanwhile, the three technical committees which were set up on federal laws, international agreements and economy-finance issues are also holding a joint meeting today.
The committees which will convene at U.N. Conference Center under the supervision of the U.N. at different hours will work to prepare infrastructure of federal state.
If negotiation process which was launched to find a solution to Cyprus issue on the basis of the Annan plan is to reach success, a united Cyprus will be a member of the EU.
Greek Cypriot side has completed adjustment to the EU in a period of seven years, but Turkish Cypriot side which has started work on this issue recently with resumption of negotiations has very limited time to adjust its regulation to the EU.
