JERUSALEM - Israel's former military attache to the United States Major General Dan Harel was appointed deputy chief of staff on Friday, the military said.
Defence Minister Amir Peretz approved his nomination by chief of staff Lieutenant General Gabi Ashkenazi.
Harel, who commanded Israel's southern sector during the 2005 pullout from the Gaza Strip, replaces Major General Moshe Kaplinsy who is taking a leave of absence to pursue his studies.
