Free Trade Agreement Between Turkey And Latvia Terminated

ANKARA - The free trade agreement signed between Turkey and Latvia in 1997 was terminated by the agreement of both sides on Sunday.
The agreement was terminated with all of its annexes and protocols to be valid as of May 1, 2004 as Latvia has to withdraw from any free trade agreements with third countries with effect from the date of Latvia's accession into EU. The decision of the cabinet which approved the notes exchanged between Turkey and Latvia for termination of the agreement was published in the Official Gazette on Sunday.
Meanwhile the Protocol on Turkey-Poland Joint Land Transportation Commission meeting was also approved. The protocol which was signed during the commission's meeting in Ankara between 12-13 January, 2004 foresees easing the highway transportation between the two countries. The decision of the cabinet approving the protocol went into force after its publication in the Official Gazette the same day.
