CHICAGO - DaimlerChrysler AG saw a four percent increase in US auto sales in May with total group sales of 221,164 vehicles, the automaker said Friday.
Mercedes Benz USA reported its highest May on record with sales of 21,771 units, up one percent from May 2006.
Mercedes also achieved its best year-to-date sales of 98,651 vehicles, a five percent increase in sales over the same period in 2006, the automaker said.
The Chrysler unit - which the company recently agreed to sell to New York-based private equity group Cerberus - saw sales rise four percent to 199,393 vehicles in May with year-to-date sales down one percent at 929,746 vehicles.
DaimlerChrysler reports its sales in percentage changes that are unadjusted for variations in the number of selling days in each month. Other automakers report adjusted percentage changes.
