ANKARA - Kemal Anadol, the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), reacted to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ''request for auto-censorship of press'' for the news about the ongoing Cyprus talks.
Holding a news conference in the parliament on Thursday, Anadol said that he was proud of being a member of the parliament that had decided on the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974.
Noting that he had witnessed several stages of the Cyprus issue since 1974, Anadol said he had not seen any prime minister requesting for auto-censorship of the press in Turkey.
It was an ''unfortunate'' statement for both Erdogan and media and democracy, Anadol said and added, ''people have the right to get information on the Cyprus issue and developments about it. We, for the first time, see a prime minister attempting to control the press remotely to have it give wrong information to our people and mislead them.''
