ANKARA - "Seven terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in Eruh district of southeastern city of Siirt today," said Turkish General Staff on Tuesday.
General Staff released a statement regarding a series of counter-terrorism operations near Kupeli mountain region in southeastern city of Sirnak.
According to the statement, 7 members of the PKK/KONGRA-GEL terrorist organization that were killed in Siirt, are thought to be involved in the attacks carried out against Turkish security forces on 24 May 2007.
On the other hand the General Staff denied news reports claiming that the Turkish Armed Forces secretly installed two radars in the border region with Iraq to watch both infiltration of terrorists and the U.S. helicopters` suspicious flights.
-ATTACK ON MAY 24TH-
A land-mine went off on May 24th in Bestler Dereler region in the southeastern city of Sirnak, killing six troops and injuring nine others. The mine planted by the terrorist organization PKK, exploded as military troops from the Third Brigade Command were patrolling in the area.
