ISTANBUL - Historical artifacts including Sidemara, the biggest sarcophagus of Turkey, all of which have been kept behind closed doors in Istanbul Archeology Museum for the last 25 years, were opened to visitors with a ceremony attended by Turkish Culture & Tourism Minister Atilla Koc.
Delivering a speech at the inaugural ceremony, Koc stated that Turkey needed a new approach in museum management.
Underscoring that understanding of management would change thanks to the developing technology, Koc said that they wanted to establish the concept of "private museum management" in Turkey.
Stressing that Topkapi Palace and Haghia Sophia were the most visited museums in Turkey, Koc noted that he hoped Istanbul Archeology Museum would become a popular one as well.
Koc also stated that other closed parts of the museum where coins, treasuries and libraries existed, would be renovated and opened to visitors soon.
