ANKARA - Turkish Parliament adopted on Tuesday a motion by the Turkish Prime Minister`s Office requesting the extension of mandate of Turkish troops under the banner of UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for another year.
The motion reminded that Turkish troops were allowed to stay for one year in Lebanon by the UNSCR #1701 (dated August 11th, 2006) and Turkish Parliament`s decision taken on September 5th, 2006.
UN has launched initiatives to extend UNIFIL`s mandate which will end on August 31st, 2007.
The motion stated that Turkish force`s mandate will expire on September 5th, 2007, and asked the Parliament to extend it for one more year.
