PARIS/ANKARA - French President Nicolas Sarkozy would not veto EU`s opening of 3 more chapter headings with Turkey on June 26th, according to Le Figaro newspaper published in France.
The newspaper also said Sarkozy sent his special envoy (former US Ambassador Jean David Levitte) 2 days ago to Turkey to sort out a new way in relations with Turkey.
Commenting on the matter, Le Figaro said Sarkozy sent his special envoy to Turkey to prevent disruption of Turkish-French relations and fragmentation of the EU to two.
The newspaper said Sarkozy did not want to intermingle EU Constitution and Turkey during the talks set to start again.
Le Figaro said Sarkozy would not favor halting the talks in order not to influence the elections to be held in Turkey and Turkey`s domestic policy. Nevertheless, the newspaper added that the French President did not change his view that he wants to see Turkey as part of an union to be established between Mediterranean countries, instead of granting it full EU membership.
On the other hand, executives of Turkish MFA reaffirmed that special envoy of France arrived to Ankara and had several meetings.
