CHALLENGE
While the Turkish Armed Forces` military operation against the terrorist organization PKK has been under way in the southeastern Turkey, the General Staff said that two U.S. F-16 jets violated Turkey`s airspace over the border with Iraq for four minutes on May 24th.
In a statement posted on its web-site, the General Staff said that the jets roamed into the Turkish airspace over the region of Uzumlu, in the eastern city of Hakkari which borders northern Iraq. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed on the violation.

DYP BECOMES DP
The True Path Party (DYP) decided to change its name as the Democrat Party (DP) during its second extraordinary congress. Speaking at the congress, DP leader Mehmet Agar pledged to eradicate terrorism within three months after coming to the political power.

DEMOCRACY QUARREL
Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) General Assembly got government and opposition together once again. Political leaders, who delivered messages for unity in previous years, argued yesterday democracy and regime, using harsh words.
PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "we will call those, who leave sovereignty to some institutions, to account in the ballot box", and main opposition CHP Chairman Deniz Baykal answered, "do not have unnecessary regime arguments."

30 CROCODILES FROM NILE TO ANTALYA
30 crocodiles will be brought from Tanzania to southern city of Antalya`s Ekopark which was established to prevent the extinction of reptiles.
Crocodiles will be caught in Nile delta, reproduce in Antalya, and young crocodiles will be left back to Nile.

"BEST SCREENPLAY" AWARD TO AKIN
Turkish film director Fatih Akin`s film "The Edge of Heaven" won the "Best Screenplay" award at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Romanian director Cristian Mungiu`s film "4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 days" won the "Palme d`Or" award.

33RD VIOLATION
Turkish General Staff that announces the border violations by Athens only at its web-site announced the 33rd airspace violation yesterday: Two US F-16s violated the Turkish airspace from the north of Iraq for 4 minutes.
Anadolu Agency published General Staff`s announcement at 5.18 p.m. According to the announcement, two F-16s belonging to the U.S. Air Force violated the Turkish airspace on May 24th over the southeast border near the eastern city of Hakkari.
The United States, that has F-16s in Incirlik Air-Base, was notifying the authorities of their flights 1 month in advance. The General Staff regarded the entering of two F-16s that took off from Bagram to the Turkish airspace from outside as a violation. The United States said it could be accidental.

U.S. F-16S IN SOUTH-EAST
On Thursday, May 24th, two U.S. F-16 fighter jets flew over eastern province of Hakkari`s Uzumlu village and violated Turkish air space for four minutes, said Turkish General Staff in its internet site. The Turkish General Staff informed Turkish Foreign Ministry about the incident.

"THE EDGE OF HEAVEN" RECEIVES BEST SCREENPLAY AWARD IN CANNES
"Yasamin Kiyisinda" (The Edge of Heaven), a film by Turkish director Fatih Akin, received the best screenplay award in the 60th Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. The Edge of Heaven, directed by Fatih Akin, is starred by Tuncel Kurtiz (Ali Aksu), Nursel Kose (Yeter Ozturk), Patrycia Ziolkowska (Lotte Staub), Hanna Schygulla (Suzanne Staub), Nurgul Yesilcay (Ayten Ozturk) and Baki Davrak (Nejat Aksu). It tells the story of six people who are connected to each other by fate and come together following a death.

Safeen Dizayee who is known as Massoud Barzani`s left hand claimed that Turkey could not enter the north of Iraq and said, "Turkey knows this too. The world will not allow this. The United States does not want such a problem." Dizayee, who said they did not anticipate a cross-border operation from Turkey, regarded Justice and Development Party as a sensible political party.

AIRSPACE CRISIS WITH USA
Turkish General staff announced two F-16s belonging to the U.S. Air Force violated the Turkish airspace on May 24th over the southeast border for 4 minutes. A MFA official said the same procedure that was applied to all countries would be applied to the United States and said an explanation will be demanded, and the grounds of the violation will be asked with a note.

STOP SCUFFLING, WRITE A NEW CONSTITUTION
Union of Turkish Chambers & Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu called on leaders to stop scuffling and take action to correct the system. However, Justice & Development Party (AKP) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Republican People`s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and Democrat Party (DP) leader Mehmet Agar ignored the call, and quarrelled with each other once again during TOBB`s congress.

NO CHANGE IN CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PACKAGE
The Parliamentary Constitution Commission approved the constitutional amendment package, which was vetoed earlier by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, without making any change. The package will be sent to the Presidential Office after being re-debated by the parliament later today.

ERDOGAN COMPLAINS ABOUT BAYKAL TO PEOPLE OF SIVAS
Addressing tens of thousands of people at Sivas` Republic Square, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan complained about the Chairman of the Republican People`s Party (CHP) Deniz Baykal and said that "CHP deputies ran away from their duties by not voting at the presidential election." Erdogan stressed that "the CHP deputies had a duty to be present at the parliament. Yet they ran away from their responsibility and hurt people`s sovereignty."

DYP BECOMES DP
Founded by Suleyman Demirel 25 years ago, the True Path Party (DYP) revoked itself on Sunday and adopted the name "Democrat Party (DP)". The Chairman of the DP is Mehmet Agar. DP`s logo is a map of Turkey with a white horse looking towards west.

"NOT A OR B PARTY, BUT STABILITY SHOULD BE
ELECTED ON JULY 22ND"
Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) General Assembly got together political parties getting ready to run in elections on July 22nd. PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Republican People`s Party (CHP) Chairman Deniz Baykal and True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar attended the assembly that had the slogan like a message to politicians: "Turkey asks its future".
Taking the floor at the meeting, PM Erdogan pointed out the importance of stability and said "not A or B party, but stability should be elected on July 22nd."

TURKISH PEOPLE FOUND CAMPUS IN PAKISTAN FOR ORPHANS
Initiating a campaign following a devastating earthquake that hit Pakistan on October 8th, 2005, Turkish people continue to help Pakistan despite 2 years over the sufferings. Besides assistance efforts regarding medicine, foodstuff, and shelter, permanent aid like schools or hospitals are now being inaugurated. Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) inaugurated yesterday schools in different cities of Pakistan. The foundation has taken the first step for thousands of orphans, who lost their families in the earthquake, to get well educated.

"OYMEN HELD TALKS WITH COMMANDERS SECRETLY"
Haluk Ozdalga, former member of the Republican People`s Party (CHP) Assembly, claimed that CHP leader Deniz Baykal encouraged a military intervention by sending Onur Oymen to the commanders of the land, air, naval and gendarmerie forces secretly. "The future of democracy in Turkey cannot be entrusted to Baykal`s individual ambitions," he said.

AKIN WINS BEST SCREENPLAY AWARD IN CANNES
Turkish film director Fatih Akin`s film "The Edge of Heaven" won the Best Screenplay Award at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Romanian director Cristian Mungiu`s film "4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days" was presented with the "Palme d`Or Award" while Konstantin Lavronenko won the Best Actor Award and Jeon Do-yeon won the Best Actress Award.
