HERE IS VULGAR KILLER
The suicide bomber, who carried out Tuesday's attack on one of Ankara's busiest shopping malls, was identified as 28-year-old Guven Akkus.
Akkus had two separate criminal records and spent two years in prison for hanging illegal posters, resisting police and being member of an illegal organization. He was also among those who beat a security official up during the protests in Istanbul on May 1st, 1996.

"WE WILL EXTEND LEGAL SUPPORT TO TSK"
Following the suicide attack in Ankara in which 6 people were killed and nearly 100 others were injured, eyes have been turned to northern Iraq where the terrorist organization PKK has sheltered.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "this is the Republic of Turkey, not a tribe. There have already been some preparatory efforts. It takes place when the time comes."
Erdogan said that there was not any difference of opinion between the government and the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

ANOTHER BOMBER CAPTURED IN ADANA
After six people were killed and nearly 100 others were injured in the suicide attack in Ankara, security forces seized bombs and explosives in the southern city of Adana and the southeastern city of Mardin. It was revealed that the woman, who was captured with 11.3 kg of plastic explosives and grenades in her bag, was planning to stage another suicide attack.

PLAIN LIVES THAT ARE UNFINISHED
All of them had a story. One of them was planning to get married, one would fulfil his military service and another one was about to meet his loved one. The bomb at Anafartalar brought these plain stories to an end.
Tuba Yami, 22, was looking after her family with minimum wage; Isa Kalkir, 19, was waiting to go for military service; Ferhat Kanat, 23, was waiting to marry the girl he loved; Muzaffer Savas, 26, was buying a suit for his wedding on Friday; Serdar Karayigit, 32, was selling cigarettes for his children; and Bilal Genc, 44, was working as an official at one of inspection committees at Interior Ministry.
Name of the suicide bomber is Guven Akkus...
Security forces found a finger on the spot, and determined that 7 people died, not 6. The 7th person was the suicide bomber. According to the finger print, Guven Akkus staged the suicide bomb attack. Akkus's father, brother and cousin earlier committed suicide.

CROSS BORDER SIGNAL FROM ERDOGAN
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said they do not have any trouble with the military regarding mounting a cross border operation to north of Iraq. PM Erdogan said they would immediately give legal support as the parliament, if the army demands.

MURDERER THAT HIT 'ULUS'
Guven Akkus, the suicide bomber that caused bloodshed in Ankara, had participated in the illegal labor day demonstration that claimed the lives of three people 11 years ago.
The suicide bomber who was identified from his ripped fingers was registered to the Zara town of the central city of Sivas, and was born in Istanbul in 1979. He quit school at the first year of high school. He was taken into custody in February and April 1996.
Akkus served one and a half years in jail for being a member of an illegal organization in 1996 and went to Netherlands with the help of the terrorist organisation PKK in 1998. Meanwhile the illegal organization announced that it had nothing to do with Akkus or the bombing.

NECESSARRY MEASURES WILL BE TAKEN
AGAINST TERRORISM, ERDOGAN
PM Erdogan gave a message of determination in fight against terrorism and said, "security forces are taking the necessary measures against terrorism. Many incidents were prevented. To declare these would have been propaganda. The fact that terrorism is based in the north of Iraq is important."

ARRESTED IN LAST MINUTE
Security forces arrested three people including a woman and seized 11.3 kg of plastic explosives, two grenades and 12 detonators in the southern city of Adana. Governor Ilhan Atis said that the woman was planning to stage a suicide bomb attack.

BEST RESPONSE
Tradesmen at the Anafartalar Shopping Mall, which was the scene of a bloody suicide attack on Tuesday, decorated the damaged mall with red-and-white Turkish flags. They also hung a large banner reading, "we are not ruined".
Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gokcek said that they would compensate the damage suffered by tradesmen.

"OUR CANDIDATE IS GUL"
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a televised interview, "if the constitutional amendment allowing election of the president by people, is enacted, our presidential candidate will be Abdullah Gul. I cannot digest the unfair treatment against Gul."

CROSS-BORDER OPERERATION MESSAGE
Erdogan signalled he could give consent to a cross-border operation to the north of Iraq to which he had been opposing in the past. Answering the questions at the evening news on ATV channel yesterday, Erdogan said, "we will do whatever it takes for peace in our country. A dispute between us and our army is out of the question."
Erdogan indicated the parliament would give authorization if the armed forces demanded it for a cross-border operation and said, "there are some preparations towards that already. Besides there is sensitivity regarding this currently. This is the picture of the situation. Erdogan, when reminded of the USA said, "Turkey does not need to take permission from anywhere."

ISTANBUL WAS ALSO ON TARGET
A suicide bomber named Guven Akkus executed the terrorist attack that killed 6 people in Ulus. The terrorist organization was planning a simultaneous attack in Istanbul. A woman who was sent to Istanbul for the attack had been taken into custody the day before. While four more people were taken into custody in Istanbul, a woman in the Yuregir district of Adana was caught with 11 kg of A-4 explosives.

Two suicide bombers were seized.
Security forces trapped a PKK member, Ebru Kara, with 11 kilograms of A-4 explosives in a taxi in Adana. One PKK member who was waiting for receiving explosive substance, was arrested in Istanbul.

ERDOGAN: WE MUST BRING A TRIPARTITE SOLUTION
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said a tripartite combination of Turkey, USA and Iraq should find a solution to PKK.
Erdogan said, "statements saying there is this or that behind terrorism, might block the process" referring to General Yasar Buyukanit's words that "we must look who is behind this" about the attack in Ulus.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that President Ahmet Necdet Sezer was intentionally delaying approval of the law allowing election of the president by people.

Turkish Businessmen's and Industrialists' Association (TUSIAD) started its traditional party leader tours with PM Erdogan. Erdogan who gave important messages about the presidential election and the constitutional amendment said, "there can be no economic stability without democratic stability." Erdogan demanded a firm stance behind democracy and said, "opposition should not come to mean casting shadows on democracy. No body has the right to make Turkey pay new costs." Erdogan said the history would judge the ones who gave the verdict regarding the 367 quorum. "I want the courts to be neutral," said Erdogan. The PM accused President Ahmet Necdet Sezer of keeping the the Constitutional amendment on hold with ulterior motives.

WORLD BANK: COALITION WILL CONSTRAIN ECONOMY
The markets are locked onto the results that will come out of the ballot box. While the economy circles are warning against the coalition scenarios, the World Bank has also given support to the same assessment. Stating that they were not expecting the elections to increase the risks directed to the economic reforms, World Bank's Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Shiego Katsu said if the general elections resulted in a coalition government some difficulties could arise. Describing the general consent on economic reforms in Turkey as positive, Katsu said, "coalition governments had more constraints in leading the economic reforms in the past."
