TEHRAN - Iran has smashed several spy networks run by the (US-led) "forces of occupation in Iraq", according to remarks by the intelligence minister reported on Saturday by the official news agency IRNA.
"Several espionage networks linked to the occupation forces in Iraq have been identified and dismantled in the west, south-west and central regions of Iran," said Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie, without giving other details.
Iranian authorities regularly accuse the United States and Britain of trying to create unrest in the frontier regions with Iraq, and also those near Pakistan and Afghanistan which are home to ethnic and religious minorities.
Violent clashes have erupted in the various regions over the past 18 months.
