MADRID - "European Union (EU) should define its borders, which include also Turkey, to act decisively," said Miguel Angel Moratinos, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs & Cooperation.
Moratinos addressed university students at a conference on "Islam and West" in Spanish capital Madrid, where he assessed EU's enlargement process.
"EU should define its borders overtly in order to implement its projects in a decisive way," said the Spanish FM. Moratinos indicated that borders of EU should include Turkey and all Balkan countries.
On the other hand he underscored the need for an institutional body for EU-Mediterranean countries, and relations between EU and its neighbouring countries should be consolidated.
-ALLIANCE OF CIVILIZATIONS-
"At the heart of this alliance lies the modernization of politics in Arab and Muslim countries without any pressure from outside," said FM Moratinos, regarding the Alliance of Civilizations initiative that is headed both by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
"Political systems should not be changed by interventions but with respect, dialogue and persuasion," he said referring to Iraq.
