Four German Parties Submit Resolution On Cyprus

BERLIN - MPs of German Christian Democrat Party (CDU), Social Democrat Party (SPD), Greens Party and Free Democrat Party (FDP) on Wednesday submitted a draft resolution to contribute to the unification of Cyprus and to grant equal rights to peoples living on the island.
Speaking at a joint news conference in Berlin, SPD MP Lale Akgun said that they asked the removal of the embargo imposed on TRNC adding that the EU must keep its promises. She also said the biggest problem in Cyprus was lack of communication between the parties.
"Papadopoulos administration of Southern Cyprus has become member of the EU. As against this, a blockade on the northern part is still in effect. People are poor and live in difficulty," she said.
CDU MP Bernhard Kaster and FDP MP Markus Loning said on their part that the EU must keep its promises, indicating that Greek Cypriot party should also launch initiatives in this respect.
Greens MP Rainder Steenblock said fragmentation of Cyprus contradicted European values, noting that spirit of Europe foresaw living in peace.
The resolution is expected to be approved in the parliament on Thursday.
