ISTANBUL - Nurgul Yesilcay, one of the leading actresses of Fatih Akin`s film "Yasamin Kiyisinda" (The Edge of Heaven) that competes in the 60th Cannes Film Festival for "Golden Palm", left for France on Tuesday.
"Three Turkish films have participated in the festival so far. As representatives of Turkish movie, we are glad to be there and we trust our film," Yesilcay told reporters before she flew to France.
The Edge of Heaven, directed by Fatih Akin, is starred by Tuncel Kurtiz (Ali Aksu), Nursel Kose (Yeter Ozturk), Patrycia Ziolkowska (Lotte Staub), Hanna Schygulla (Suzanne Staub), Nurgul Yesilcay (Ayten Ozturk) and Baki Davrak (Nejat Aksu). It tells the story of six people who are connected to each other by fate and come together following a death.
Akin was born in 1973 in Hamburg and began studying Visual Communications at Hamburg`s College of Fine Arts in 1994. He is best known for his 2003 film "Duvara Karsi" (Head-On/Gegen die Wand) which won a Golden Bear at the Berlinale and received other German and European Film Awards.
