Turkey`s special envoy for counter terrorism Edip Baser was removed from office after Monday`s meeting of the Council of Ministers. Baser criticized the point reached in the fight against terrorism and said he would leave his post in June. Government appointed Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Rafet Akgunay to replace Baser.

BURSA TO MANUFACTURE NEW CABS FOR AMERICANS
Karsan, a leading Turkish automotive manufacturer based in the northwestern city of Bursa, will produce a newly designed model of cabs which would be used in the USA and Canada. Karsan will export 20 thousand cabs annually under a project that costed some 100 million USD. The project will make Karsan the biggest manufacturer of cabs.

Turkey`s special envoy for countering terrorism retired general Edip Baser --who earlier said that he would resign in June-- was removed from office by the government. Rafet Akgunay, Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary, was appointed as the new special envoy.

CALL FROM CHP CHAIRMAN BAYKAL TO YOUNG PARTY SUPPORTERS
Republican People`s Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal said regarding Young Party (GP) ahead of the general elections on July 22nd, "our interest is mutual. We would be happy to embrace voters of GP. However, there is no institutional effort at the moment."

MILITARY RESORTS TO BE CLOSED DURING ELECTION
Turkish General Staff decided to close all its military resorts and facilities during the elections to be held on July 22nd, in order to encourage the military staff to vote.
According to a statement sent to all military departments, military training and recreational facilities will be closed 4 days prior to and 4 days after the general elections on July 22nd. The military staff will not be able to go on vacation on these 8 days.

TALKED AND REMOVED FROM OFFICE
Turkey`s special envoy for countering terrorism retired general Edip Baser was removed from office, upon the statements he made to Sabah daily.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed Baser on such decision by phone. Rafet Akgunay, Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary and Erdogan`s former advisor, has been appointed to replace Baser.
"This mechanism is over. I will open the last door and then I will quit," Baser earlier said to Sabah.

WHO OFFERED THE 367 BRIBE?
An investigation has started regarding the claim of Republican People`s Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal and Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) chairman Erkan Mumcu, who said "those businessmen close to government approached our MPs with bribe in order to convince them to attend the presidential election."
Chief Public Prosecutors` office in Ankara will get information from some businessmen in the framework of the investigation.

TERROR IS CONSIGNED TO AMBASSADOR,
MGK IS CONSIGNED TO SOLDIER
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not wait for resignation of retired general Edip Baser, Turkey`s special envoy for countering terrorism, and removed him from office. Rafet Akgunay, Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary, has been appointed to this post. The reason of the decision is the "negative statements" Baser made to press.
On the other hand the general secretary of National Security Council (MGK) will be a soldier after a break of 2 years 9 moths. Yigit Alpogan, the first civilian general secretary of MGK, will be appointed as ambassador to London. Major general Orhan Akbas, who is first deputy secretary general, will be appointed by proxy.

RALLY FOR REPUBLIC IN WASHINGTON
Turks living in the USA held a public meeting, "a rally for the republic," in Washington`s Lafayette Park on Monday. Nearly one thousand Turks and Americans of Turkish descent carried Turkish flags and banners and chanted slogans.

BASER REMOVED FROM OFFICE
The government removed retired gen. Edip Baser, Turkey`s special envoy for countering PKK terrorism, from office after Monday`s meeting of the Council of Ministers. Government said that Baser was removed because of his certain remarks which could set back counter terrorism efforts. Baser earlier said that he would soon quit his job.

PO AND CALIK ON WAY TO RECEIVE PERMISSION FOR REFINERY
Energy Higher Board is in the process of issuing licences for three refineries that are planned to be established in Ceyhan in southern city of Adana. At first hand the Board will give permission to Calik-Indian Oil and Petrol Ofisi (PO)-OMV (Dogan Group) whose documents are complete. Socar-Turcas` application will be examined after they present the necessary documents.
President of Energy Market Regulatory Board (EPDK) Yusuf Gunay said they might give permission to the mentioned companies in their meeting next week. "This means an investment of 11 billion USD and with a capacity of processing 35 million tonnes of crude oil will be made in Ceyhan region" he added.

DIPLOMAT INSTEAD OF SOLDIER IN FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM
Turkish Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Rafet Akgunay has been appointed as Turkey`s special envoy for countering terrorism instead of retired general Edip Baser yesterday.
"Baser has been removed from office as it was taken into consideration that some of his statements might affect the studies negatively," it was stated in the new appointment decision.

NYC`S TAXIS TO BE SENT FROM TURKEY
Karsan, a Turkish automobile manufacturer, will manufacture new generation taxis which were especially designed for USA and Canada.
The company will manufacture and export nearly 20,000 taxis a year, which were designed taking into consideration security and the needs of the handicapped.
