BRUSSELS - New French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Wednesday he could not drop his opposition to Turkish membership of the European Union, an opinion he voiced during the election campaign.
"I don't see how you can be a candidate with one opinion and a president with another," he told a press conference in Brussels. "I don't think that Turkey has a place in the Union."
