ROME - "I have no doubt that Turkey is a country situated in Europe," Italian PM Romano Prodi said on Monday.
However, Turkey's full membership will take a long time, Prodi stated during the opening ceremony of a conference in Italian capital of Rome.
"Personally, I am sure that Turkey belongs to Europe. But I cannot hide that full membership will be a long and complicated process. Patience and insistence are necessary for this goal (membership goal)," he commented.
Prodi said that he still supports EU's enlargement process, and noted that enlargement was an unavoidable alternative for unification of the continent of Europe.
According to Prodi, enlargement has raised the level of prosperity in Europe, increased employment, broadened the market, and ended the artificial divisions that occurred after the World War II.
