ISTANBUL - We invite Turkey to be full member of European Union energy market, said Brandon Devin from European Commission Energy Community, on Monday.
Turkey is at the center of European Union, said Devin who delivered a speech at the "6th Energy Regulation and Investment Conference" which is organized by Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) in Istanbul.
Pointing that the Middle East has vast amount of natural resources, Devin stressed the importance of transit roads that would bring this natural gas to Europe.
Energy Community, which is a part of European Union, invited Turkey to be full member of EU energy market however they have not received an answer yet. Stating that Turkey is at the center of European Union, Devin said Turkey was invited to become a full member of energy market.
"We are waiting a positive reply from Turkey" he added.
The agreement that formed Energy Community was signed on October 2005.
On the other hand Hasan Ozkoc, Head of Working Group of Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) of Turkey, said there is need for more projects in order to provide energy supply safety. He also stressed the importance of Turkey's position between Europe and the Middle East.
Elio Ruggeri, Project Leader from Edison SPA firm, gave information on project IGI that will carry Caspian and Middle East gas to western Europe and Italy via Turkey and Greece.
