ANKARA - Kathy Schallow, spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, reaffirmed U.S. support for Turkey, in its fight against terrorist organization PKK, on Monday.
Schallow answered questions regarding Turkey's special envoy for countering terrorism retired general Edip Baser's words that have taken place in the Turkish press recently.
"The U.S. government remains firmly committed to working with Turkey against PKK and we believe that the envoy dialogue has been a positive part of that process," stated Schallow after saying she does not want to directly comment on Baser's words or interpret them.
A Turkish newspaper quoted retired general Edip Baser as saying, "it is not that we take up arms and go terrorist hunting. But because of the doors we have opened, very important things have been accomplished. Now there is one more door to open. I will open that door and I am quitting in June. There is no need for another mechanism after this."
According to the newspaper, Baser did not comment on what he meant by "one more door".
