BASRA - Gunmen ambushed a British military supply convoy in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Monday in a clash that left a fuel tanker ablaze and at least one badly burned body on the street.
Jubilant Iraqis dragged the corpse away from the burning truck and danced around it, flashing victory signs at press photographers.
"At about 3:15 pm (1115 GMT) a British convoy came under attack from small arms fire as a result of that a petrol tanker caught fire," a British military spokeswoman said. "One British soldier was evacuated from the scene."
She was unable to give any details about other casualties.
