ANKARA - "The demand of the public, expressed during the demonstrations held at 3 metropolises, guided us regarding the establishment of an electoral coalition between Republican People`s Party (CHP) and Democratic Left Party (DSP)," said CHP chairman Deniz Baykal on Friday.
In a live program on private `CNN Turk` channel, Baykal said they planned to start CHP`s election campaign with a rally to be held in southern city of Mersin on May 26th, in which he desired to participate with DSP chairman Zeki Sezer.
"The cooperation between the two parties has become a symbol of compromise and unity based on the values of the republic, principles laid by Ataturk and national integrity," noted Baykal.
Baykal also indicated that they are eager to make CHP and DSP `one party`.
-ECONOMY-
Explaining CHP`s prospective policies on economy, Baykal said at first glance it looked like there was an economic stability in Turkey due to the `liquidity abundance` in international markets.
However Baykal underscoried that Turkish industry must be improved.
-TURKEY-EU RELATIONS-
Assessing Turkey-EU relations, Baykal claimed that the problems encountered in relations stemmed from the mistakes in (Turkish) foreign policy.
"It is not possible for us to come into conflict with EU while dealing with politics. However, there is a certain disappointment created by EU," Baykal affirmed.
-QUESTIONS-
On the other hand, replying to questions prior to the general assembly meeting of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture, Baykal underscored that CHP and DSP did not negotiate regarding the number of deputies (to be allocated to each party).
"We had a common understanding based on basic principles. This understanding will be implemented. No figures were pronounced," Baykal stressed.
