ANKARA - "I am grateful to CHP (Republican People`s Party) and DSP (Democratic Left Party) for their decision to cooperate in the upcoming general elections (scheduled for July 22nd)," said Rahsan Ecevit, the founder chairperson of DSP and widow of late PM Bulent Ecevit.
Ms. Ecevit held a press conference in her office in Oran-Ankara on Friday.
She noted that CHP and DSP listened to the calls of voters and decided to cooperate.
"When the two political parties (CHP and DSP) act together, they will have a sounder voice. Voters from the left are grateful to them for their decision," Ecevit stressed.
She indicated that Turkey needs a sound national economic program, when commenting on her expectations from CHP and DSP.
Stating that Turkish identity should be preserved, Ms. Ecevit stressed that the EU`s and the USA`s demands which go against national interests should be rejected. She also underlined that efforts should be deployed to assure the recognition of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by the international community.
Replying to a question, Ms. Ecevit said that she felt sorry over DSP chairman Zeki Sezer`s decision not to run in the elections (scheduled for June 22nd), remarking that she told Sezer that he should run.
Asked whether the CHP-DSP electoral alliance would come to power, Ecevit noted, "I believe that it will be in the government, but this doesn`t mean that it would be able to form a government on its own."
