ANKARA - "Higher Election Board (YSK) examines the individuals who are proposed as candidates regarding the qualifications required to get elected such as the status of their criminal record and education level. The board will then decide and announce whether these people will be candidates or not," said YSK chairman Muammer Aydin on Friday regarding the independent candidacy of former DEP members in the general elections.
Aydin replied to questions on whether former members of the banned Democracy Party (DEP) Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Selim Sadak and Orhan Dogan can run for deputy as independent candidates in the general elections on June 22nd.
Underscoring that YSK would not act according to suppositions, Aydin said they would make an assessment when they received the applications.
