Ercakica On Proposal To Include Greek Cypriots In Euro Zone

LEFKOSA - "Such decision, made without taking into consideration the Cyprus issue and Turkish Cypriots, might deepen the deadlock and make the division on the island permanent," said TRNC Presidential spokesman Hasan Ercakica, commenting on European Commission`s recent decision which proposes the accession of Greek Cypriots to the Euro Zone by January 1st, 2008.
"While carrying Greek Cypriots` integration with EU countries one step forward, the accession to the Euro Zone will increase the economic differences between Greek Cypriots and TRNC," Ercakica stressed in a written statement.
He also indicated that European Commission`s decision would drag Turkish Cypriots away from the European Union both in economic and political sense.
