IZMIR - 12 NGOs from Turkey and Germany came together and formed the "European initiative" in order to support Izmir`s candidacy to host EXPO 2015.
An information meeting regarding the initiative was held in Izmir on Wednesday.
Prof. Dr. Faruk Sen, chairman of the Center for Studies on Turkey (TAM) said they, as NGOs, will lobby in all countries other than Italy and Greek Cyprus.
Recalling that for the first time a Muslim country applies to host the fair, Sen said this is why Aegean city of Izmir might attract votes from 25 Islamic countries.
``12 institutions will carry out promotion activities and TAM will host a meeting about Izmir with the support of German automotive giant BMW``, he said .
On the other hand, Sen said the most important activity in the framework of promotion activities will be carried out in the United Nations HQ in NYC.
NGOs from Izmir will attend the general assembly meeting of UN on September 26th, where a speech regarding Izmir`s candidacy for hosting EXPO 2015 will be delivered.
Union of Turkish-European Entrepreneurs (BTEU), Friedrich Neumann Foundation and Izmir Chamber of Commerce are among the sponsors of the initiative.
