ANKARA - "Relevant authorities are investigating the claims regarding the plane that crashed in (northern city of) Trabzon (on Sunday)," Turkish Interior Minister Osman Gunes said on Wednesday.
"Judicial authorities are also dealing with this matter, but we have not received any clear information yet," he noted when commenting on the allegations that the plane was carrying nuclear substances.
Gunes answered positively to the question if the two people aboard the plane were being followed.
British Michael Newman and Pakistani B. Bhangoo, who were aboard the plane, died in the crash. The small private plane that took off from Ankara, landed in Trabzon on May 10th for bunkering. It had to wait a few days at Trabzon Airport because of adverse weather conditions, and left for Tabriz at noon, on Sunday. The wreckage was found on Tuesday.
On the other hand, a technical team from the Transportation Ministry has launched an investigation, said Trabzon Governor Nuri Okutan.
"The ministry will make the necessary statement," he said and refrained from commenting on claims that the plane was carrying nuclear substances.
