From Louvre To Istanbul Exhibition To Be Opened In 2008

ISTANBUL - Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul will host more than 200 pieces from Islamic arts collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The exhibition "From Louvre to Istanbul: The Three Empire Centers of Islamic Art: Istanbul, Isfahan, Delhi" will be opened at the Sakip Sabanci Museum in January 2008.
The artifacts to be on display will show the magnificence of the palace arts during the Ottoman Empire, Mongolian Empire in India and the Iranian Safavi State, the three biggest Islam empires existed between 15th and 18th centuries.
The exhibition will focus on four main themes including "the Iranian world and its stylistic impact", "relationship of the three empires with China", "styles of each empire", and "openings to Europe", in a period between the end of 14th century and the beginning of 16th century.
Ceramics, graphics, carpets, textile products and architectural objects to be displayed in Istanbul have not been on display for more than 30 years.
The artifacts can only be seen in Sakip Sabanci Museum till 2009, when a special department for Islamic arts collection will be inaugurated at the Louvre Museum.
13,000 artifacts will be exhibited in this new 4,000 sq.m. section of the Louvre Museum.
