Parliament To Elect Three New RTUK Members Before Recess

ANKARA - Before going into recess, Turkish Parliament would elect three new members of the Radio & Television Supreme Council (RTUK), whose seats will become vacant on July 14th, said sources on Tuesday.
RTUK consists of 9 members. According to provisions of Radio & Television Law, its three members --including Chairman Zahit Akman, Ilhan Yerlikaya and Akif Merdol-- will have to quit on July 14th.
Term of office for a RTUK member is six years, however, one third of council members should be renewed once in every two years.
The deputies will elect three new members --two among candidates designated by Justice & Development (AK) Party and one by Republican People`s Party (CHP-opposition)-- by secret vote. (AK Party will nominate four candidates and CHP two).
The voting date will be set by AK Party, CHP and Motherland (Anavatan) Party after discussions.
