Delivering a speech at the inaugural session, OIC SG Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made an overall assessment regarding the activities OIC carried out since last year. Pointing to the Palestine issue Ihsanoglu said that the Islamic world should join forces and fight for the settlement of problems in the region.
"Palestinian parties should stop quarrelling between themselves and try hard to halt the occupation," Ihsanoglu stressed.
Meanwhile, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, who attended the meeting as a honorary guest, indicated that Islamic countries should get together in order to solve problems.
Claiming that Western countries helped poor and distressed Islamic countries more than the Islamic world itself, Musharraf called on the OIC members to support each other more than ever.
