AMBASSADOR SUPPORTS TURKEY`S FIGHT
Ross Wilson, Ambassador of the United States to Ankara, said, "PKK is the most difficult specific terrorist problem that Turkey encounters. It is one where none of Turkey`s allies have done all they can or should." Stating that the biggest part of the struggle with the PKK is ultimately Turkey`s burden, he noted, "it is tough, even ugly work. In recent weeks, Turkish security forces have clearly taken the battle to the PKK. The United States supports that work." Ambassador Wilson delivered an opening speech at the conference on "Countering Ideological Support for Terrorism" held at Ankara`s Swiss Hotel. Ross Wilson stated that "our countries and many others have resolved to work together more effectively to fight terrorism."
HAND IN HAND FOR ELECTIONS
True Path Party (DYP) chairman Mehmet Agar and Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) chairman Erkan Mumcu who decided to unite under the roof of Democrat Party had the floor together in front of their new emblem.

DOCTORATE FROM SCHOOL HE CALLS AS "HOUSE"
Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk was decorated with an `honorary doctorate` by Istanbul Bogazici (Bosphorus) University (BU) which he called as his house. Pamuk said, "there is no other place which would make me that much happy of receiving honorary doctorate. I have learned in this school that books are things to be understood, not to be afraid of."
HUGE SHOW OF STRENGTH OF SECULARS
Demonstration of Republic in western city of Izmir was depicted as "the biggest show of strength of seculars" in the world. Times, Le Monde, Guardian, Financial Times, Washington Post, Le Figaro and El Pais which showed great interest in the demonstration wrote, "secular protest of 1.5 million" and "biggest show of strength of people".

RIGHT LANE WITH FULL POWER
The Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) and True Path Party (DYP) celebrated the 57th anniversary of the Democrat Party government on Monday, May 14th.
LEFT LANE BLOCKED
Bargaining on the number of deputies is hurting the would-be marriage between the Republican People`s Party (CHP) and Democratic Left Party (DSP). DSP announced that it wants at least 275 spaces out of the list of 550 MPs. CHP is offering the DSP 12 seats for MPs.

VATAN (INDEPENDENT)

4 PARTIES AT PARLIAMENT
According to a survey of Vatan, if general elections were held today, Justice & Development (AK) Party ranks on top again. However, its rate of vote is not enough to be on rule alone. It seems like there will be a coalition of 2 or 3 parties.
MYSTERIOUS PLANE LOST
A small plane which took off from Turkish northern city of Trabzon for Iran lost from radar a short time after take off. There were a British pilot and a Pakistani person in Sky Arrow 650T type plane. The plane which is estimated to crash could not be found despite efforts of 10 separate teams.

NO DEADLOCK IN LEFT
Bargaining continues between Republican People`s Party (CHP) and Democratic Left Party (DSP). CHP chairman Deniz Baykal noted that he had no problem with DSP chairman Zeki Sezer. "We are waiting for an answer from DSP," Baykal stated. On the other hand, Sezer said, "we are working to reach a common point. I believe that we will do that."
EP TO SEND A DELEGATION TO TURKEY
The European Parliament decided to send a delegation to Turkey to follow up the general elections to be held on July 22nd.

DP GONE, YDP CAME
After finding out that the name Democrat Party has been claimed, the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) and True Path Party (DYP) decided to unite under the name New Democrat Party (YDP).
METEOROLOGY WARNS: GET READY FOR A DRY SUMMER
Turkish meteorology issued a warning that temperatures during summer will be at least two Celsius degrees higher than average. There will be less rainfall during the summer compared to previous years. Temperature in Diyarbakir will reach 40.4 Celsius degrees. In Antalya, temperature will climb to 36.4 Celsius degrees while in Istanbul it will reach an average of 30.5 Celsius degrees.

Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) and True Path Party (DYP) cannot unite under the name Democrat Party (DP). A new party will be founded. When leaders of the two party ran late to apply for the name, a citizen applied and received the royalty of DP.
ATTENTION, TEMPERATURES TO INCREASE
Temperatures will increase all across Turkey by 4-6 Celsius degrees as of Monday and will stay above the average.

Famous French newspaper Le Figaro wrote that "Turkish sailing is living its golden era", stating that Turkey grew rapidly in the sector in the last 5 years, and climbed to the 8th rank in the world.

AFRICANS SHOW HIGH INTEREST IN SECOND AFRICAN SUMMIT
The Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) is sponsoring the second African Summit that will kick off at the Lutfi Kirdar Exhibition Hall on Wednesday, May 16th. TUSKON is holding the summit so that Turkish businessmen can reach new markets in Africa. 900 African businessmen from 39 different countries will participate in the summit.
SENER: "ECONOMIC PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE TO BE IMPLEMENTED DESPITE ELECTIONS"
Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener has indicated on Monday that "despite the upcoming general elections, the government will continue to implement its economic program." There will be no election economy, stressed Sener.

YENI SAFAK (CONSERVATIVE)

ANAR`S SURVEY
According to a survey conducted by ANAR for Yeni Safak, if general elections were held today, Justice & Development (AK) Party would take 38.3 percent of votes. On the other hand, the survey showed that Republican People`s Party (CHP) & Democratic Left Party (DSP) gets 14.8 percent of votes.
BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY DECORATES PAMUK WITH `HONORARY DOCTORATE`
Istanbul`s Bogazici University presented `honorary doctorate` to Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk. Pamuk who is also a former student of the university, said the it played a very important role in his life.
