ANKARA - Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) would continue to extend constructive support to U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Addressing his party's group meeting in the parliament, Erdogan said that last week passed with a busy agenda and good news and stated, ''preliminary works which have been carried out by Turkey and Mr. Denktas and TRNC government for a long time yielded favorable results. A basis of compromise has been reached during negotiations in New York.''
Erdogan said that he believed that the point that was reached opened brand new and good horizons to Turkey and TRNC.
Stating that Turkey and TRNC would also continue to extend constructive support to Annan from now on, Erdogan added that a satisfactory solution for both sides in Cyprus should be the basic goal for settlement of a lasting peace on the island.
