Police lack evidence to arrest Briton in Portugal child case

LISBON - Portuguese police searching for missing girl Madeleine McCann said on Tuesday they did not have enough evidence to arrest a Briton who is under formal investigation in the case.
Detectives "don't have enough elements which could lead to his arrest", inspector Olegario de Sousa told a news conference in Portimao, southern Portugal.
Police declined to give the Briton's name, saying however that he is 33 years old and cooperated with police at the start of the investigation.
The Lusa news agency earlier named the suspect as Robert Murat, who was questioned late Monday along with an unidentified German woman and a Portuguese man as part of the investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.
The four-year-old Briton went missing on May 3 while her parents ate in a nearby restaurant.
