EDIRNE - Turkey`s EU process has been speeded up during Germany`s rotating EU presidency, said German Consul General in Istanbul Matthias Ludwig Bogislav Von Kummer.
Kummer on Monday paid a visit to Nusret Miroglu, governor of northwestern city of Edirne.
Stating that Germany supported Turkey`s bid to join the EU, Kummer noted that about 30 chapters should be negotiated regarding Turkey`s membership process. He said four chapters were negotiated during Germany`s EU presidency.
"A slowdown was mentioned about Turkey`s EU process in November 2006. Turkey`s EU process has accelerated during Germany`s EU presidency. Negotiations for Turkey`s full membership to the EU will continue as started in October 3rd, 2005," Kummer said.
Kummer said rumours regarding a "special status" would result in nothing.
