SAN JOSE - An armed man has taken several hostages inside the Russian embassy in San Jose, Costa Rican Public Security Minister Fernando Berrocal said Friday.
Heavily armed police, some clad in riot gear, sealed off the streets leading to the embassy, but no details were available on who the man is and who he might be holding hostage.
"My understanding is that it is a hostage seizure," Berrocal told reporters. "An armed man is holding several people."
Local media said that specialized negotiators were heading to the site.
